An Update on Using Squidoo for Traffic

It has now been a month since I started using Squidoo for traffic.  So let me give you a little information on how this has all panned out.

Building the lenses was not so difficult after reading up on it for a little bit and checking out some of the better lenses on Squidoo.  You can look out for the video coming soon about putting together a nice lens.  All together, I built fourteen lenses to date.

The first few weeks for the lenses were great.  I was getting nearly 150 views a week for all lenses total and the click through rate was about 25%.  Then, after a few weeks, these numbers began to tail off substantially.  Now, my views are about 20% of what they used to be which means less click throughs to my target sites.  One thing that I learned before building my lenses was that they need to be promoted and updated.  Promotion can be minimal but it seems that updating needs to be on a regular basis in order to keep up the traffic.  I am going to begin updating more often and see if I can’t get my traffic back up there.  Also, as a note, the top referer to my lenses have been ezinearticles.com articles that I wrote and pointed to one of my sites and my squidoo lenses.

One thing that did surprise me was that I got more organic search referrals than expected.  When I began creating my lenses and writing assiciated articles, my articles were getting to the top few pages of Google but none of my lenses were getting there.  But I am getting organic search traffic and that is a good thing.  With the new changes coming to Squidoo, I suspect that the organic search referrals will increase a bit over time.
