Does your internet business plan compliment your life plan? Part 4

Hello everybody.  Today we’re going to step back a few discussions and talk about the obstacles that are stopping you from achieving your goals.  A few discussions ago, we talked about identifying the things that are in your way.

What are the specific obstacles that are holding you back from following through with your internet business plan and your life plan?

What are the things that you can’t seem to overcome that are not allowing you to achieve your goals?

Don’t hold back.  Include everything from procrastination to fear of success, not being organized, not being able to stick to your schedule to having too many personal obligations.  Whatever the case may be, you have specific obstacles that are standing between you and your ideal life.

So the long and the short of it is, we all have obstacles we need to overcome.  An obstacle is something that we need but that we do not have.  And let me tell you a little bit about where were to go with this.  Now that you’ve identified the obstacles that stand in your way, let’s talk about taking these negative roadblocks and turning them into positive stepping stones.  From here, you can build the roadmap that you need to help you get your goal.  This is meant to help you stay focused and help you keep the end in mind.

If you’re obstacle list looks anything like mine, I am sure you’re a little overwhelmed!

Let me use a specific example here.  One of my goals is to devote uninterrupted time to my business.  This allows me to keep a definitive separation between my personal life and my work life.  The key here is that I want to have uninterrupted time that I devote my business.  As I thought about this goal of mine, I started to think about what is preventing me from spending uninterrupted time working on my business.  Here’s what I came up with:

I didn’t have my business information consolidated to my office PC.  I had information on my laptop, on my net book and some on my PC.  I needed to have it all in one central location that I could sit down and just work on my business without getting sidetracked or having to gather all of my information before digging in.

I needed to have my business information synchronized between my PC and my laptop.  This was an issue because if I had to work on my laptop I may not have access to the information on my desktop and vice versa.

I didn’t have any scheduled time to devote to my business

I didn’t have a ritual for executing during the time that I did dedicate to my business

And, when dedicated time I found my mind wandering, surfing the web, reading the next new ebook etc…

I didn’t have an organized office space.

I didn’t have an organized project planning tool.

I didn’t have an agreement with my spouse for uninterrupted business time.

I didn’t have an agreement with myself for uninterrupted business time.

I let other activities take precedence over the time that I had planned and dedicated to work on my business.

These are just a few of the things that I uncovered as obstacles that prevented me from spending dedicated time on my business.  I did this exercise for my personal life.  I did this exercise for my business life.  Then, I did this exercise for my own personal development needs.  Needless to say, I was extremely overwhelmed.

Next time we get together I want to talk a little bit about how I organize my goals and what I’ve done to transform these obstacles into a positive driving factor in my life.
