Content: Blog Post Writing
We are consumed by the information age. The internet is used mostly for gathering information. Our careers as internet marketers rely on an endless stream of information and a lot of times that means writing your own content. Blog post writing eventually becomes a major task we must endure. But where does all of this content come from? Where do some people seem to get endless idea after endless idea? Let me give you a few strategies for keeping your stream of content, for blogging or that ebook you want to write, flowing.
Most of what I write comes from my own personal experiences. No different than personal essay writing or letter writing! These are things that I am passionate about. My beliefs, my opinions and my recollections are stronger and more accurate than any information that I could get from anywhere else. Therefore, my number one resource for blog post writing or ebook content is my own experiences.
In order to track my ideas and my thoughts I have created my “Content Bible”. I use various tools to capture my ideas as they come to me. Most notably would be index cards. I have them every where and no idea escapes me. I collect all of these ideas in the Content Bible. It may be a pet peeve, my rant for the day, someone or something that annoyed the heck out me, notes on how I accomplished something or just a random thought. Sometimes, when I am on a roll, I will brainstorm from one idea to the next and capture all of these in my Content Bible.
I also carry a flash drive with me. On the drive I have a document for blog post writing ideas for my blog, content ideas for ebooks, etc… If I am near a computer and get the urge to get some thoughts out of my head and onto paper, I sit down and let the river flow! Tracking your ideas is a must if you want original content. So be sure to have a writing tool and some paper scattered about your home and office so that no idea escapes you. I even send myself texts or emails through my phone and dump them into the Content Bible.
I really keep my finger on the pulse of our market also. I suggest using Google Reader and Delicious to keep current events at your finger tips. I use Google Reader to track my favorite online marketers and “life” thinkers blogs. I use Delicious to track interesting bookmarks from any computer that I am at. I keep up with my Google Reader updates on a regular basis and try to stay up on the current “buzz”.
Aside from original content for blog post writing, you could always grab some PLR content or outsource some of your content needs. There are a few really good PLR content sites out there and I suggest elance and Guru.com for outsourcing any of your content needs. You could also go so far as to reprint articles from ezinearticles and similar article directories but I do not suggest doing that too often.
I have used all of these methods and I suggest that you do the same. Even in the course of writing an ebook you will need to look something up or do some extraneous research on the web. I suggest mapping out a content strategy for all of your content needs so that you can remain focused and never fall short of your goals because you lacked some quality content!
